29th March 2020 by The Pacific Development Foundation
The world is facing a global pandemic known as the COVID-19 that has taken more than 8000 lives until now, while thousands are still fighting the disease. Although COVID-19 has flu-like symptoms, it can get worst for older adults and those who are already ill. The mortality rate of COVID-19 is about 2.3%, which is not so alarming; however, countries are taking extreme preventive measures to control the spread of the coronavirus.
The virus started in Wuhan, China, and has now spread to about 190 countries. Some countries, including Italy, Iran, U.S., etc. are on lockdown to slow down the transmission of the disease. New Zealand is one of the states that has been inflicted by the virus.
The number of COVID-19 cases hit 102 on Monday in New Zealand, which is why the country has decided to move to Alert level 4.
Here’s what Alert Level 4 means for Kiwis.
- One month nationwide lockdown
- Self-isolation at all costs
- Closure of all non- essential businesses
- Schools childcare centers and universities to be closed
- Only essential air travel allowed
- Essential public transport only
- New Zealanders should stay at homes unless visiting an essential service
- Vigorous testing and tracing of COVID-19 cases
- Finance Minister has announced a new economic plan to help struggling companies and workers
Everyone to Follow the Guidelines
Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of NZ, gave the speech on COVID-19, in which she made sure that everyone has to follow the guidelines under all conditions. Jacinda Ardern encouraged schools to teach online and Kiwis to stay indoors as much as possible. In addition to it, the next 48 hours are crucial for the Kiwis as they will face the worst lockdown of their lives. So, unless you want something extremely essential, you can come out; otherwise, keep yourself and your family safe amidst the spread of the virus.
The Prime Minister of the country is keen to stop the spread of the virus and finding cases at a great pace. From the examples of China, Italy, Iran, and other countries, no country is in the place to make mistakes. Unless taken seriously, the virus can spread so much that it can make healthcare systems collapse in just a few hours.Alert Level 4 is crucial for Kiwis, but it will prevent a major outbreak of COVID-19 in NZ. Every person in the country is to stick to the rules. Otherwise, the situation can go out of hand in no time. In short, the virus can quickly spread, which is why adequate measures at this time can help countries to recover from the damage.
